Description
This is an imagined country landscape scene - a sight one might find in many rural areas. We had a beaver colony near where I used to live.I love these busy little creatures! This cute beaver is an industrious animal. With his sharp teeth he fells small trees and carries branches to the stream to build his dam. Beavers are the doers of the animal kingdom, and have a strong sense of home and family. They all work together to get the job done - a lesson many would do well to emulate! When building their dams beavers always leave more than one exit/entrance - creating multiple escape routes! The lesson - don't box yourself into a corner with no escape! Leave many paths open in all you do and you leave yourself open to more experiences - don't block the flow of energy! These are some of the lessons of beaver medicine. Honor the abilities of all you work with and leave ego out of the mix! Be open to challenges and look for alternative solutions, and protect that which you've created with love.
By damming up streams beavers create a diverse watery habitat for many other species - ducks, turtles, fish, frogs, to name a few. In creating the dam they often raise the water level around the dam which allows them to have access to their stored food supply - branches for the long winter months, while they can stay warm inside the beaver lodge. Beavers mate for life in or after their 3rd year. They have from 1 to 4 kits which are born in the spring, and both beaver parents care for the young. The yearlings act as babysitters for the kits.
Beavers, often disliked by people whose lands they flood, actually maintain the wetlands that soak up flood waters, and by cutting trees the actually promote new growth.Their dams help to keep water on the land longer which in turn helps to alleviate droughts. They also lesson erosion and purify water. Above older beaver dams several feet of silt collects.Toxins in the water, like pesticides, get broken down by microbes in the wetlands that beavers create. This makes the water downstream of dams cleaner and in need of less treatment for use by humans - something to remember when out in the woods!.
This tranquil ,imagined country landscape scene is available as prints, gallery wrapped canvases and decorative throw pillows for your home or office decor!

Great painting and I LOVED your narrative. We can learn so much from nature if we take the time to look and listen. Nice work, Ellen.
