Description
Vibrant blooms adorn these barrel and prickly pear cacti in this imagined, impressionist style cactus garden. This square format version of my original watercolor will make a striking addition to your home or office decor, and is beautifully suited to any room with a southwestern theme. It would also be lovely in a restaurant, cafe or hotel/motel.
The prickly pear cactus is a cultural part of Mexican and Mexican-American diets .Most varieties are edible.Only the young cactus are eaten as the older ones are too tough. The leaves or fleshy pads are cooked and eaten as a vegetable, and are sold in stores as Nopalito. The fruit called "tuna" is also eaten and is sold in stores. The flowers which are usually yellow, red or purple are also edible and are added to salads. The cactus range in height from one foot to between six and seven feet tall. Although native to the southwestern deserts of the U.S. and parts of Mexico, the prickly pear have been introduced to area around the world where climatic condition will support them. The prickly pear are also used medicinally for several different conditions.
