Description
According to MikMaq (Micmac) legend,a long, long time ago when the birds migrated South for the winter months, they came and left by themselves. Often the little birds were killed by storms, and this saddened Kluskap, the great God of the Mikmaq. Kluskap asked the largest bird, Wild Goose who was the last one to leave for the South each fall, to watch over all of the smaller birds. Wild Goose gathered all the little birds together and told them Kluskap's had asked of him. It was agreed that from then on Wild Goose would be their leader on the long flight South, and that he would shelter them in their homes away from home, and escort them on the journey back and protect them while they were in the North for the summer .
