Rainbow Moose Night Grazing is my imaginative,colorful and creative rendition of a bull moose grazing in a marsh under the full moon done in watercolor. When I think of a moose I always smile - they have been portrayed as cartoons,colorized,there are children's books about them,stuffed animals.....the list goes on!In the Medicine Cards by Jamie Sands Moose represents "Self Esteem" - the joy one feels when one has achieved ones goals.The bellow of moose is all about telling the world who you are and sharing your joy. Learn to be proud of even the smallest accomplishments, they will lead to bigger things My favorite moose was the moose wandering through town - which they will really do - on the opening credits of the TV show Northern Exposure.
Moose is the largest member of the deer family and is very strong.Male or bull moose have palmate antlers. Moose usually inhabit boreal and mixed deciduous forests of the Northern Hemisphere,in the temperate to subarctic climates of Alaska,Canada,many areas of the northern U.S.including northern New England and upstate New York, the upper Rocky Mountains, northern Minnesota, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and Isle Royale in Lake Superior.They are also found in Colorado,Wyoming,Utah,Montana,Idaho and also parts of Washington and Oregon, Russia and Scandinavia. Over hunting and encroachment by humans on their territories has lead them to inhabit a smaller range than they used to, although they are being reintroduced successfully to some areas again.
The word moose is said to be derived from the Algonquin languages"moos" from the Narragansett or "mos" from the Abenaki.
