Description
These are a few of my favorite things! A calcite crystal wand (approximately 20 " long), a beautiful, pearly snail shell,a large abalone shell (frequently used to make jewelry) - I use mine to burn my sage, cedar and sweet grass and last but not least Sea glass - bits of broken glass that have been tumbled in the ocean til they acquire a softened edges and a smooth ,grainy patina. I love to add pieces to glass or crystal containers filled with shells and colorful tumbled rocks and minerals. I used to love finding them washed up on the beaches along with the occasional sea star ( we called them starfish, however marine biologists have changed their name since they are not actually fish at all).
There are approximately 2,000 species of sea star living oceans all over the world. They exist in tropical habitats and on the cold seafloor. We usually see the 5-armed variety ,hence their name - sea star, but their are species with 10, 20, and even 40 arms. They are marine animals, with a hard, bony, calcified skin which protects them. They can be many different and beautiful colors, which helps them to camouflage themselves. A very distinctive characteristic of sea stars is the ability to regenerate a new arm and sometimes even a new body. http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/invertebrates/starfish/
