Description
Spirit of the Mountain Lion is of a mountain lion 's spirit coming out of a full moon with a spirit or medicine staff in the foreground.Cougar (mountain lion) medicine is that of leadership and coming into your personal power.(see the Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams)The original painting is in the personal the collection of the artist. This animal has great significance for me from dreams I've had.
Cougars are (Puma concolor) also known as mountain lion, puma, panther, or catamount(probably from cat of the mountain),mountain screamer and painter. Cougar is a large cat of the family Felidae which is native to the Americas. The cougar's range is from the Yukon (Canada) to the southern Andes of South America. Cougars are adaptable, and are found in most American habitats. It is the second heaviest cat in the Western Hemisphere, after the jaguar. The cougar is a solitary, nocturnal animal by nature.Cougars are most closely related to the smaller felines and genetically, they are closest to the domestic cat rather than lions.
Cougars are excellent stalkers, and hunt a wide variety of prey.Their main food sources include deer, elk, moose, and bighorn sheep, as well as domestic cattle, horses and sheep, particularly in the northern part of its range.Cougars will however hunt species as small as insects and rodents as well. They prefer dense underbrush and rocky areas, but can also live in open areas. Cougars are territorial. The size of an individual's territory depends on terrain, vegetation, and available of prey.Although a large animal in its range, the cougar will yield to the jaguar, grey wolf, American black bear, and grizzly bear. They are naturally reclusive and usually avoid humans. However there have been more fatal attacks on humans in recent years as more people encroach on their territory.
