Original watercolor painting was done on 140lb cold pressed paper.
Hippopotamus means "river horse", coming from Greek. The hippopotamus is an extremely large semi aquatic mammal with a round body, short legs, and a big, broad head. Hippos are a brownish gray color on top and a light pink underneath. The ears, nose, and eyes of the hippo are positioned on the top of its head so it can stay submerged while still able to see what is going on around it. Hippopotamuses spend most of the day in the water and secrete a pinkish red oily substance that acts as a sunscreen.
