Description
An abstract rendition of Cailleach, the Celtic goddess of winter ( Scottish-Cailleach Bheur) , The Veiled One, Winter Crone, hag of winter. Goddess of Winter. Cailleach means old woman, crone or hag. She is a creator deity and believed to be responsible for the shaping of the landscape ( whether by accident or on purpose) She is said to control the length and harshness of winter- the cold and the winds. In Scottish tradition she is shown with blue face and symbols and is also called the storm hag and believed by some to be a shape shifter - changing to a great bird. She was the patron of wolves in all the Gaelic regions and a deer herder in Scotland.
This artwork is done in acrylic and ink on watercolor paper.
