Description
Phoenix rising from the flames - reborn from the ashes.
The Phoenix is a mythical and sacred firebird (having a fire spirit). It has very colorful plumage and is usually depicted with its tail red (scarlet) ad gold - though some legends have it being purple, blue or green.Legends of the phoenix are found in the lore of the Greeks,Romans,Chines,Egyptians,Persians and possibly the Phoenicians. Because of its connection with fire it is associated with the sun and some images show it with 7 rays coming from its head. Its life cycle is 500 (possibly to 1000) years. When The bird is nearing the end of its life cycle it is said to build itself a nest of twigs which it then ignites - burning both itself and the nest to ashes. It is from these ashes that the new phoenix arises (or in some stories a phoenix egg appears). This regeneration implies that the phoenix is immortal.
The cry of the phoenix is thought to be a beautiful song.In some legends it is described as about the size of an eagle, while in others it is much larger.
