Description

This watercolor impression of Ramshorn-Livingston Sanctuary was done from a photo taken by my granddaughter.
Ramshorn -Livingston Sanctuary In Catskill,Greene County,NY (480 acres is the Huddon River's largest forested tidal swamp. One may not think of a swamp as a fantastic place to visit the way one would a mountain peak or thundering waterfall, but although it may lack grandeur, the diversity of wildlife it attracts makes it an exciting and beautiful place to visit. You can hike the wildflower-filled lowlands, along rustling marsh grasses and over intriguing rock outcroppings in the swamps upland forested area .

You can also enjoy the curvy Ramshorn Creek in a kayak or canoe which lets you get an even closer look at the creatures that live in the sanctuary. There are some three dozen varieties of dragonflies, Great blue herons,waterfowl,bald eagles ,muskrats, beavers and river otters .Who knows what you'll see as you wander the 2 miles of trails and enjoy the view from the 28ft high observation tower.
