Artist's Description
The barnyard boss, rooster, cock or cockerel is considered by almost all cultures to be a symbol of illumination - believed to dispell evil spirits just as the sun chased away the darkness of the night. It is the 10th symbol of the Chinese zodiac. In dreams rooster is often considered a wake up call.
Roosting is the act of perching above the ground to sleep at night (done by both sexes). Roosters have a shrill call to warn of danger. They also perch in elevated areas during the day to keep a watchful eye on their hens and will attack any other rooster entering their territory. The name "rooster" is from the United States and is used throughout North America, Australia and New Zealand. The terms cock and cockerel - which denotes a young bird - are used in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
This would make a lovely addition to a kitchen, family room, den,a country inn or bed & breakfast,a country restaurant or pub.

About Ellen Levinson
I have been painting and crafting ever since I can remember. I enjoy experimenting with different techniques in watercolor, and mixing watercolor with other mediums. My work reflects my love of nature, with strong influences from trips to the desert Southwest and from time spent with many Native American friends and teachers. Some of my paintings are planned, such as a specific landscape .
