Artist's Description
Bears gathered in the forest, relaxing after stuffing themselves on blueberries and probably honey! "Picnic in the Woods" is a purely imaginary scene inspired by memories of an afternoon spent blueberry picking near my home in the Catskills of New York. I wandered away from everyone (not a smart thing to do) because I spotted a great looking berry patch that didn't look picked over. All of a sudden I heard snuffling and crunching coming from over the ridge - and hightailed it out of there! Luckily there was no confrontation. I love the bears and occasionally seeing them at a distance. I'll imagine them having a picnic!
Bears eat other berries as well as blueberries - raspberries,blackberries,boysenberries... and also eat deer and other animals and fish. During some Native American ceremonies blueberries are put out as an offering to the bear.
About Ellen Levinson
I have been painting and crafting ever since I can remember. I enjoy experimenting with different techniques in watercolor, and mixing watercolor with other mediums. Painting is a meditation to me - it brings me peace and joy.,and has been a healing therapy since I became disabled. I love sharing my art with my grandchildren and inspiring others to try their hand at painting! Everything has the potential to become a painting. Some paintings are planned, and sometimes I let the flow of paint guide my imagination! My work reflects my love of nature, with strong influences from trips to the desert Southwest and from time spent with many Native American friends and teachers. Some of my paintings are planned, such as a specific landscape .
