This is from a photo I took while visiting the many ruins in the #Red Rock Country of the #Sedona Verde Valley,Az.It was such an amazing experience to sit in one of these ruins looking out and try to imagine life as it was for the "old ones" or ancestors who lived here so long ago.With the exception of a beautiful lizard that was on the dead tree visible through the entrance to this ancient dwelling and a few song birds there was no noise in the area.Sitting here and meditating was like taking a step back in time.It was an incredible experience that deeply touched me.
The cliff dwellers,the Sinaqua Indians (which means with out water in Spanish,are believed by some to be the ancestors of the Hopi .They built many cliff dwellings and lived in the area from 650A.D. til around1400A.D. As the Sinaquans left, Apaches and Yavapi moved in. The Palataki (red house)Ruins were built by the Sinaqua around 1150A.D. It is not known why they mysteriously disappeared around 1300 - perhaps due to...
