Olana Impressions Autumn is my original watercolor done from one of my photographs. Olana NY State Historic Site is the home/ studio and estate of Frederic Erwin Church , famous Hudson River School artist. It was made a National Historic Landmark in 1965. The house is also a prime example of Orientalist architecture. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation owns and operates the 250 acre estate. The main building , an architectural masterpiece, was designed by architect Calvert Vaux who worked closely with Frederic Church. The villa is a mixture of Victorian, Persian and Moorish styles made of stone and brick and polychrome- stenciled. Church designed the stencils based on designs seen during his travels in the Middle East. The stencils are also inside the house. I have been painting and crafting ever since I can remember. I enjoy experimenting with different techniques in watercolor, and mixing watercolor with other mediums. Painting is a meditation to me - it brings me peace and joy.,and has been a healing therapy since I became disabled.
